  • Safety Tips For Changing A Flat Tire:
  • First, it can be dangerous on the side of the road to change a tire, if you do not feel secure in doing so, please call us!
  •  Get As Far Away The Road way As You Can
  • Whether you’re on two-lane blacktop or a huge superhighway, you need to get your car as far out of the way as possible. If you can put the flat tire on the side of the car facing away from traffic then you’re already much safer than you were where you started.
  • Clearly Mark to Other Drivers That You Are Experiencing An Emergency
  • Turning on your hazard lights will let other drivers know there’s something wrong, but that’s just a start. Portable road cones or signs to help direct traffic into the lane away from your car are needed and road flares help. This lets other drivers know to give you room to change your tire as safely as possible.
  • Make Sure You Have Solid, Flat Ground For Your Jack
  • Before you can change your flat, you need to jack the car up. The jack needs to be set against the frame of the vehicle to bear the weight, and it also needs to be set on flat ground that’s sturdy. If you jack your car up at an angle, the jack will likely slip and could cause severe injury! Or costly mistakes can cause your car could roll backward, or down an incline. These risks are bad enough even in normal circumstance, but on a busy road they can get even worse, they can be deadly.
  • Be Aware of Your Surroundings
  • It might seem like common sense, but if you’re changing a flat tire on a busy road you need to be aware of the traffic around you. No matter how many careful you are or what signs you put out, there is always a danger as long as there is any movement around you and your vehicle. If you have someone with you it’s a good idea to have that person act as a lookout.

Jump Start Service

As frustrating as it is, from time to time you might find you need a jump start to get your car moving again. Often we find this is because car lights or electrical appliances have been left switched on and the battery has accidentally discharged, although it can also be caused by an old or faulty battery. Whatever the issue, we can help. If your car can be safely jump started we will do that and get you on the road again. If there is a more serious issue and we can’t simply jump start the vehicle, we can tow you to a local mechanic to get help.

Winch Out Service

We use a winch out service if a vehicle has become stuck, or come off the road and needs some help to get back to a paved surface. Typically this will be in a situation where the vehicle hasn’t been damaged, so you can get back in and drive away. If we discover your car is not roadworthy after winching we can have a tow truck take you to a mechanic to get any repairs needed done.

Some police departments own tow trucks, but in the U.S. it is common to contract police tows to private companies. We do not impound cars unless they are on private property and at the request of the property owner or property manager, then it will be done so at the owners request. Businesses who operate a large fleet of vehicles, such as school bus companies or package delivery services, often own one or several tow trucks for the purposes of towing their own vehicles, we can back up those companies in their time of need. Government departments with large fleets (such as the police departments, fire departments, transportation authorities and departments of public works of major cities) may similarly own tow truck(s). Police department tow trucks may also be used to impound other vehicles. Heavy tow trucks are often called to clear semi truck accidents and straighten out jackknifed trucks. In rural or unorganized areas, companies which operate tow trucks can sometimes also offer additional services appropriate to highway clearance where government-provided ones are unavailable, such as fire suppression. We assist as needed in these types of situations. If your vehicle has been impounded we suggest calling the owner of the property it was towed from to ask where it was towed to.

Move Over Law

North Carolina's Move Over law protects State Troopers and other law enforcement officers and emergency and utility workers stopped along side our highways.
The Highway Patrol has taken steps to ensure more safety for citizens and troopers. In January, 2002, the state's Move Over law took effect requiring motorists, if they can safely do so, to move one lane away from any law enforcement or other emergency vehicle that is on the side of the highway. This law includes utility vehicles that are on the side of the road restoring electrical service during an unplanned event such as a hurricane or ice storm. The utility vehicles are required to have a flashing amber-colored light.
The law requires motorists slow down and approach cautiously when any emergency vehicle is stopped on the shoulder of the roadway with its lights flashing. Motorists are required to move over to another lane away from the emergency vehicle on a multi-lane highway or slow down on a two lane highway and can do so safely. Motorists must slow down while maintaining a safe speed. G.S. 704-753-8880 (f).
A violation of the move over law will result in a mandatory fine of plus court costs/ possible felony charges if anyone is injured as a result of a driver not adhearing to the law.
(North Carolina Department of Public Safety)

In North Carolina, as in the majority of other states, the "Slow Down and Move Over" regulation is an important safety precaution. On the road, the law was drafted with the goal of safeguarding emergency responders and tow truck operators. To comply with this requirement, motorists must slow down and, if possible, transfer to the next lane while approaching emergency vehicles, such as tow trucks, that are stopped on the side of the road with flashing lights. It is impossible to overstate the importance of this rule, as it contributes significantly to the safety of individuals who work in hazardous situations along the side of the road.

Tow truck operators and emergency responders, such as local police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians, regularly work in dangerous situations, such as those in which passing cars pose a significant threat. These workers are especially vulnerable in Statesville due to the enormous volume of traffic on the city's highways and arteries. The law reduces the likelihood of accidents caused by distracted or speeding drivers who are unaware of the presence of emergency vehicles on the roadside. This is accomplished by ordering that vehicles slow down and move over.

The Slow Down, Move Over ordinance, which is enforced in Statesville, North Carolina, is both a legal obligation and a moral imperative. This ensures that those who help others can do it without fear of being injured by passing cars. The law helps to create a safer working environment for these professionals, hence reducing the number of fatalities and accidents by the side of the road. The gravity with which North Carolina treats this issue is shown in the fact that those who violate this rule risk obtaining significant fines and other punishments.

Public awareness campaigns in Statesville and throughout North Carolina have played a critical role in educating drivers about the need of following this legislation. The goal of these efforts is to demonstrate that slowing down and moving over is a simple but effective means of safeguarding those who protect humans. It may be determined that the Slow Down, Move Over rule is absolutely important to ensure the safety of all emergency vehicles, including tow trucks, in the city of Statesville, North Carolina.
